Hi! I’m Monika.

As a board-certified clinical psychologist, I specialize in helping individuals navigate the complex intersections of anxiety, trauma, and a loss of control over eating. My practice is designed for adults who want to understand the mechanisms behind their distress and build concrete, research-backed strategies to step out of survival mode. Whether you are seeking relief from chronic worry, working through a history of trauma, or trying to rebuild your relationship with food, we will work as an active team to restore balance, emotional regulation, and a sense of true control over your life.

Note: Dr. Stojek resides in Poland, maintains her full licensure in Georgia, and provides specialized, evidence-based care virtually for clients located throughout the state.

Specialties: Disordered Eating & Compulsive Behaviors, Trauma & Complicated Grief, Anxiety & OCD, and Depression & Emotion Regulation.

I operate as a scientist-practitioner. This means everything we do in therapy will be rooted in modern, up-to-date clinical science, without losing the heart of the therapeutic journey.

I center my practice around a core philosophy of collaborative empiricism. In plain terms, you and I operate as a team to discover the truth of what helps you heal, beyond our preconceptions and assumptions. We won't just talk - we will actively try out new perspectives and coping tools to discover what actually brings you relief and works for your life.

I balance a structured focus on behavioral change with a deeply accepting, compassionate stance, using several evidence-based modalities:

  • Disordered Eating & Body Concerns: I provide specialized cognitive-behavioral treatments for bulimia nervosa, binge eating, and emotional eating, helping you dismantle compulsive habits and stabilize your relationship with food.

  • Trauma Recovery & Grief: As a certified consultant in Prolonged Exposure (PE), I use high-fidelity, proven protocols to help you safely process traumatic life events, sexual trauma, and complicated loss.

  • Anxiety & Mood Management: Integrating traditional CBT, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), we target intense emotional suffering, chronic health or social anxiety, and OCD to build sustainable coping mechanisms.

My clinical foundation was built within intensive medical, federal, and academic institutions. After earning my doctoral degree in clinical psychology at the University of Georgia, I completed my residency at the Medical College of Georgia and the Charlie Norwood VA, specializing in the psychology of women and intensive trauma processing.

Driven to understand how emotional stress directly impacts physical health and behavior, I went on to complete a post-doctoral fellowship at the Uniformed Services University and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), with a specific focus on youth obesity and dysregulated eating patterns.

For four years, I served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Emory University School of Medicine Psychiatry Department, providing specialized therapy to post-9/11 veterans in an intensive outpatient trauma program while supervising clinical trainees. Currently, I split my time between research and active teletherapy practice; I am an Associate Professor and Director of the Trauma, Health, and Eating (Thrive) Lab at the University of Silesia in Poland, while continuing to collaborate with my colleagues at Emory as an adjunct professor.

In the therapy room, I am curious, interactive, and deeply validating. I do not sit in silence or rely on vague, open-ended reflections. Instead, we roll up our sleeves and treat our sessions as an active space for learning, experimentation, and growth.

I view our relationship as a true partnership - I bring the psychological science and clinical roadmaps to the table, but you are the expert on your own lived experience. While I will gently encourage you to challenge your old assumptions and face your biggest fears, I am dedicated to meeting you where you are and pacing things according to your needs. We will map out each step of your care together, keeping our space warm, transparent, and focused on helping you thrive.

On a personal note, I am a mom of two young children. To de-stress, I run and do yoga. I love being out in nature, especially hiking in the mountains, and I am getting into gardening.
